Are We Ready for a Food Shortage?

Are we heading for a food shortage?

It could be alarmist, but "are we ready for a food shortage" is more likely a misguided headline that would put fear into an uninformed and disconnected community. But we need not be concerned, and here are the reasons why:
  1. A strong local and regional community that supports people growing their own foods, buying from local farms, maintaining clean water supplies, should not be concerned about a food shortage.
  2. Food security is generally dictated by Governments, NGO's and corporates all reflecting a top down approach.
  3. This top down approach suggests we should be concerned about global weather, global food systems, large scale farming, and the cost of commodities on the stock exchange.
  4. Therefore, for a long time, and like many other issues, the food security narrative has been hijacked by Governments and their minions.
  5. Food security should in reality, reflect a grassroots or bottom up approach as this is what is important to communities at a local level. No community model should exist without a market garden farming component.
    1. Let others argue that their imported foods are essential or that our export products are part of the food security mix. Its simply not correct. People by and large have been brainwashed to exclude local growers and backyard veggie gardens from their perspective of a balanced lifestyle.
  6. A bottom up approach relates to creating strong communities that are able to grow and source their own food locally and regionally. It has nothing to do with "global" food issues.
  7. The Food Security Proclamation is a grassroots campaign that declares we need to protect how we grow and source food, and be aware of the direct and indirect challenges to food security at a local level.
    • for example: declaring bee mites, avian flu that justifies killing chickens, vaccinating cattle for risk of apparent diseases that dont even exist in Australia, increasing regulations on small to medium farmers, etc.
    • The effect of drought or natural disasters are direct challenges that can be minimised and overcome quickly with the correct growing practices focused locally, that are adopted by "most" rather than "some", and where reliance on supermarket chains is significantly reduced to just a few consumable products.
  8. We definitely need to protect our local food sources and supply from interference from Government and Councils who think they can control the freewill of the people or infringe upon the fundamental human right to clean, healthy food.
There is no other website in the world currently allowing people to join together and declare their support for their food sources and supply in their own regions!
The A6 size flyer is available on the Home page (bottom) for anyone to download and print. Simply getting more people to a download and sign the Food Security Proclamation means power is being placed back in the hands of the people, making it easier to challenge threats to how we grow, source and supply food locally.
